Champagne bottleChampagne!
By Andrew Campbell

'Tis the season to drink Champagne and Sparkling Wine! It is festive, traditional, and fun to drink. More people drink this wine during the holidays than any other type of wine.

Champagne screams celebration. During the season of Big Feasts, Champagne and Sparkling Wines are very versatile. They can go with an array of foods: from spicy Asian dishes to turkey, tofu to pâté, Mexican to meatballs, or all by itself. And then will go with chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. Champagne tastes good with everything and with nothing at all!

Champagne is a no-brainer and should be drunk for all festivities. It is the one wine that everyone will be happy with at your celebration. These wines are very traditional for this time of year. What would New Years' Eve parties be like without Champagne? You can't shake up your bottle of Cabernet and spray it on everyone (it stains!). You can shake up your bottle of Mountain Dew and spray it on people, but that's what you did in elementary school. Champagne does not stain, sprays well, and is very adult. Champagne epitomizes celebration.

Champagne is just plain festive and fun to drink! There is a loud "pop" when opening, signifying the party has begun. There are millions of tiny bubbles you swallow when drinking--like a big explosion in your mouth that leaves you wanting for more. It says everything from "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Hanukkah" to "Happy New Year."

If you are trying to decide which champagne to celebrate the 'real Millennium' with, be sure to check our Squire Cellar Picks. We offer a couple selections with this ostentatious date in mind. In particular, the Dom Perignon 1993 is a fantastic vintage and is in it's prime. (Our listed price is $122 but if you shop around, there are some great deals being offered on this now.)

No matter your budget or bottle however, be sure to bring a pen, save your cork, and write on it the date and who you celebrated with. Your cork will make a great souvenir for your "Party of the Millennium."
