Personal Picks
Cline Mourvedre “Ancient Vines” Contra Costa County 2001 (California) $13
Old world complexity, new world fruit at an affordable price! Medium bodied, its bright black cherry and red currant fruit flavors are interwoven with aromas of juniper, sage and cedar. Made from grapes grown in the sandy soil of Contra Costa County on pre-phyloxera old vines, this is one of the most beguiling wines I’ve had this year. The finish is also surprisingly long and elegant. A thinking person’s domestic wine! Cheers!

Trevor Jones “Red Cebo” Rose Barossa Valley 2001 (Australia) $12
Nothing says “summer” like pink wine! The crimson color of this Aussie Rose illuminates the table and luscious aromas of strawberries leap from the glass, though this sexy wine in no simple summer fling! It’s saturated flavors and a hint of tannin make it a match for full bodied foods. Try it with beef satay or lamb curry.

Chateau La Rogue Cuvée Clos des Benedictins Coteaux de Languedoc 2000 (France) $15
A crisp and aromatic blend of white Rhone Varietals. Peach, orange blossom and honeysuckle aromas combine with a crisp finish to produce an utterly charming white blend. Try it with grilled fish and fresh peach salsa.

Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Cuvée 1999 (California) $21
Lush dark fruit flavors with structure to match! All at a great price.

Andrew Will Merlot Seven Hills 2000 (Washington) $40
A chocolate covered cherry bomb! Layers of luscious fruit roll into a seamless mocha tart cherry finish. This wine is still very young…it needs two to four years to show its very best.

Trevor Jones “Boots” White 2000 (Australia) $15
A mystery white blend from coastal Australia, with layers of fruit in the nose and a finish that’s crisp on the palate. This wine tastes like a crispier conundrum!

Penfolds Cabernet Shiraz Koonunga Hill 2000 (Australia) $10
This wine is lucious and fruity with just enough structure to keep you drinking. Perfect mid-winter mid-week warmer!

d’Arenberg Footbolt Old Vine Shiraz 1999 (Australia) $18
This is a dense and deeply flavored Shiraz at a very decent price. Blackberries, graphite and smoke flavors make this wine a great introduction to low yield old-vines Shiraz.

Abadia Retuerta Rivola Sardon de Duero 1999 (Spain) $11
Deliciously rich fruit, good depth and a strong but not too tight structure on this Spanish red. This wine has blackberry, cherry and vanilla in the nose. A blend of 60% Tempranillo and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is an amazing wine for the price.

L’Ecole No. 41 “Barrel Fermented” Semillon Columbia Valley 2000 (Washington) $15
This is the perfect alternative to Chardonnay. Medium body, layers of lush fruit balanced with crisp acidity. Aromas of pear and tropical fruit make it a great match for Asian Food. A Washington original.

Hedges Fume-Chardonnay Columbia Valley 2000 (Washington) $12
Experience Chardonnay without its clothes on! No oak, no malolactic fermentation, no butter…just crisp green apple fruit straight from the earth. This is perfect for light seafood or chicken dishes.

Chateau Routas Rouvière Rosé 2000 (France) $10
A standard bearer for dry French Rosé. Made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault. Dry, elegant and crisp with the barest hint of fruit.

Sumarroca 2000 (Spain) $9
Made from a blend of Tempranillo, Syrah, Grenache and Merlot. Crisp and dry with a mineral and cranberry finish.

Valdemar 2000 (Spain) $9
Crisp and dry rosé from Rioja, with a hint of strawberry.

Chateau Grande Cassagne 2000 (France) $9
Displays nice fruit and body while staying impeccably dry and elegant.

Joseph Phelps Grenache Rosé 1999 (California) $11
More fruity and full bodied than most European Rosé but still crisp and refreshing.
